A WEEK IN HOLLAND
I went to Holland from
4 to 11 November 2000 with 3 friends and two teachers.
We arrived at our hotel, placed in Haarlem, on Saturday evening. The
peculiarity of this hotel was that the stair was very uncomfortable, in
fact each step was of about 15 centimeters and so it was very difficult to
go up the stair with our bags.
On Saturday evening we had dinner in a restaurant called "Gauchors"
and we tasted Dutch meat, that was very good and chips, but above all we
knew a nice Dutch waiter.
The following day we
went to Amsterdam, where we saw many strange things.
In fact at the station there were at least 500 bikes, because a lot of
people move about by bikes.
Each person can speak Dutch and English, and in some shops there were
marijuana and so everyone can buy it without problems.
Then we arrived at the red lights street where prostitutes were in the
shop-window, a reality so different from the ours!
We visited the Rembrandt Museum where there were many pictures, as
"The Night Watch", old chinaware, ancient furnitures and old
dresses.
On Sunday evening we came back to Haarlem by train and we had dinner in
the same restaurant of the previous day.
On Monday we shifted in Deurne, a city near Helmond where there is Roc Ter
AA Institute and so we changed hotel , a more comfortable one.
At 17:30 we met the
Dutch teachers, Paul, Henk and Yvonne and we went to a Greek Restaurant
where we ate very well.
Then we went to Mr Paul’s house, and had a talk with the Dutch teachers
always in English.
On Tuesday we went to Roc Ter AA Institute in Helmond and we visited the
school with the Dutch teachers.
The school is endowed of a canteen, of an "emergency room" for
simulation, of a kitchen to teach cooking to students, of a bank for the
simulation for the students of the economic section.
We had lunch in the canteen of the school and we had lyophilized soup and
sandwiches.
On Tuesday evening we had dinner in an Italian pizzeria called "Marco
Polo" but the pizza was not very good.
Then we went to a village to skate on ice and it was very fun in fact my
friend Piero and I couldn’t skate and we were very frightened so I clung
the railing for all the time, while Piero was more corageus.
On Wednesday morning we went to school and we split in two groups, my
friends worked in video editing, while the teachers and I worked with the
Internet and Power Point.
On Wednesday evening we went to a Dutch restaurant and we tasted stamped
potatoes with vegetables and meat.
On Thursday morning we went back to school and we continued to work.
In the evening we went to Germany only for a coffee.
Then we had dinner in a Dutch restaurant where we tasted orrible Dutch
pizza.
On Friday morning we finished the presentation in Power Point and a video
about our short stay in Holland.
The Dutch teachers gave us chocolates and a book with information about
Holland.
On Friday evening we went to Endhoven where we went shopping.
On Saturday we left Holland and we came back to Italy.
I enjoyed this
experience but the only negative aspect is that we didn’t succeed in
having relationship with the Dutch boys and girls.
